Journalism is commonly known as the collection and publication of news. The information gathered may be placed in a newspaper, magazines, television, radio, internet, and in mobile phones. The history of journalism started way back around the year 1605 when Johann Carolus published the first newspaper somewhere in Strasburg. The making of newspapers was totally different of what it is today. Publishing really takes a little longer before it can be finished. Few years later as technology improved, the creation of printing machines really contributed a lot in newspaper making. Because of the mechanical printing, there was a mass production… Until these present times newspaper printings are still practiced. In journalism, there are several laws that apply to it. These are regarding cases like libel, obscenity, and false advertising. This law is made to protect the subject and the people involved to it. Journalism is not just the gathering and publishing of information but also the art of writing. Today we can clearly see that writers really exert much effort to put their work on top of others. Making money can also be found in journalism. This can be done through the aid of publications from newspapers and magazines to television and internet.

Journalism has become the part of human communication. As time passed by, journalism advanced to different styles. We have the professional journalism, sports journalism, science journalism, investigative journalism, new journalism, ambush journalism, and the most common one which is the celebrity journalism. The development of different styles made the world of journalism more organized than before. These different styles were made based on their purpose. The professional journalism is what you can see in news programs and in newspapers. It is actually the formal way of collecting and distributing news. Professional journalism is just like news reporting. Another style of journalism which is the sport journalism involves a different kind of sports. This is one of the most important parts in newspaper and magazine publication. The writer usually watches a certain game live to gather more information about the event. Today what sports journalist would do is to interview a player and will paste their conversation in published media.

Another style is the science journalism. This is a new style journalism which involves different field in science. This may include latest discoveries and significant findings. This can be a source for several studies and a form of entertainment for the curious individuals. The next style of journalism is the investigative. This will cover an investigation process which will uncover acceptable or unacceptable behaviors from a person, company, or group. This style of journalism would really require a lot of time and expenses. One journalist is not enough for this type of journalism. It would need more than three representatives to perform such activities. One or more interviews are usually done to numerous respondents. This will also require a lot of research processes to prove the gathered data. Sometimes this will have a legal problem which is the invasion of privacy. Representatives must make sure that everything is clear. Clearance and consent may be necessary to conduct any activities related to investigative journalism.

Another style is the new journalism. This involves gathering and publishing information by using different literary techniques. Common examples are the conversational and the first person point of view techniques. This may be applicable to other styles of journalism like the sports and celebrity. Ambush journalism is another style, which involves a sudden confrontation of the journalist to certain respondents. During the ambush, the respondents usually do not want to interact with the journalist. To compromise, the journalist would just take pictures from the respondents. The celebrity journalism is likely similar to sports, formal, and ambush journalism. No matter what styles of journalism you are in always remember to do the following. First is you needed to recheck the spelling, most importantly a person’s name.  This is the most common form of neglect to writers. Some are really confident with their words. Next is to spell out everything. This is because there are some readers who will misinterpret abbreviations. Next is to remember that you should make the title in capital letters before a name. In every new speaker there should also be a new paragraph. Lastly is to place periods and commas inside a quote or a parenthesis. Always remember to place the person’s name right before his or her quote.
